The Little Theatre of the Rockies continues its summer repertory season with the iconic and inspiring musical, Godspell, opening Thursday, June 18 in the Norton Theatre.
Using a variety of games and storytelling techniques Jesus’s life and his eventual persecution is told through parables from the Gospel of Matthew. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus’s message of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life.
Godspell was the first major musical from a young Stephen Schwartz, who went on to write such mega hits as Wicked, Pippin and Children of Eden. It features an eclectic blend of songs ranging from pop to vaudeville, including Day By Day, Prepare Ye The Way Of The Lord and By My Side.
The show is directed by John Leonard and the cast includes Alex Albrecht as Jesus, Nick King as John the Baptist/Judas and Company as Leo Batlle, Asa Cogswell, Tyler Jensen, Domini LaRussa, Kallie Linder, Maggie Rodriguez, Brittany Shaffer, and Adriane Wilson.
Godspell plays at UNC’s Norton Theatre, in Gray Hall on the UNC campus. Evening performances are June 18 (sold out), 19 (sold out), 20, July 10, 15-16 and 25 at 7:30 pm.
